I was full of anticipation for this Small Town's Craft & Bake Sale Saturday morning. My mother-in-law had been talking it up for over a year that I couldn't wait to try it.
I was so impressed with how well the organizers pampered its vendors! Not only did they have to option for vendors to rent a table (and save on carting their own), but they also had quite the lunch line-up that was included for vendors! And they had runners who would bring you your lunch when you requested it!
I wish more shows were like this and I would probably be doing a show a week or more!
I was hoping for a bigger turn-out (and I guess the organizers were a bit disappointed since they had less attendance than previous years), but sales were still average. Which is nice to be able to say. :)
This was also my father-in-law's first-ever craft show. He does gorgeous leather work in their basement during his spare time and even gets blue ribbons at their local Fair. But he has never tried to sell anything before - which I've been encouraging him to do for a few years now.
We were so proud of Robin taking the leap of faith today! Even though it can be extremely scary, I think he did a wonderful job! And I find it funny that he has the same take on sales-to-friends as I did when I first started: "it doesn't count." But now I say, "a sale is a sale! And its worth even more if your friends validate your work through purchase."
The only con to this show was the fact that the person assigned next to me did not show. An empty table is never a good show, but otherwise the organizers were amazingly above and beyond in their treatment of their vendors. They included a hot lunch ticket and free coffee with a donut! Who doesn't want to have their (forgotten) needs taken care of while trying your best to sell out!?
I'm definitely looking forward to adding this one to my list of annually applied for Craft Shows. Fingers crossed they have me back next year!
Have you ever been blown away by service before? What was it that they did? I'd love to hear all about it in the comments below! Be sure to click "subscribe via email" to receive comment reply notifications.
